Gary Jackson

Charlotte Lawyer- Partner

Gary is an accomplished North Carolina Lawyer who has practiced law for over thirty-seven years, the last twenty-two of which have been devoted almost exclusively to representing plaintiffs. After graduating from Duke University (magna cum laude) and Duke Law School (Member, Duke Law Journal), Gary clerked for a federal judge in California. He then became a litigation associate at the world’s largest law firm, Baker & Mackenzie. In 1986, Gary returned to North Carolina, where he was a partner with Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice. In 1995, he left “big firm” practice to begin representing individuals and small business owners, primarily against large corporate entities.

Gary has focused his practice on representing consumers, homeowners, investors and people who have been seriously injured, and he has been involved in some of North Carolina’s most significant cases. These suits include: representing families of victims killed in North Carolina’s deadliest nursing home fire, handling hundreds of “synthetic stucco” cases for homeowners (a situation the North Carolina Attorney General described as “the worst consumer problem ever to have faced the State”), and prosecuting claims for healthcare benefits brought by a class of over 220,000 state retirees.

Gary has substantial experience in prosecuting class actions, and is frequently asked by other lawyers, both here and in other states, to assist in handling large, complex claims. Likewise, he routinely serves as local counsel for out-of-state plaintiffs’ firms who need experienced North Carolina counsel to bring lawsuits in our state and federal courts.

Gary holds leadership positions in several national and state legal organizations, such as the American Association for Justice, the Southern Trial Lawyers Association and the North Carolina Advocates for Justice, having recently served as President of that organization. He is a graduate of Gerry Spence’s Trial Lawyers College. Gary frequently speaks throughout the country at educational programs for lawyers, and writes articles addressing current legal trends and developments. He has been selected for twelve consecutive years as a “North Carolina Super Lawyer,” in the area of Class Actions/Mass Torts, including being named one of the top 100 lawyers in North Carolina and one of the top 25 lawyers in Charlotte in recent years.
