The Law Offices of Jason E. Taylor Investigating Water Contamination in Cape Fear
We at The Law Offices of Jason E. Taylor are currently investigating claims involving Chemours DuPont’s discharge of toxic chemicals into the Cape Fear River. These companies have released poisonous substances from their Fayetteville Works plant for a number of years, at least since 2002--and our firm has found they have been aware of these dangers for decades. As a result, there has been a significant contamination of public water supplies downriver from the facility, including water provided by the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority (CFPUA) in Wilmington.
These toxic chemicals are generally known as polyflourinated compounds (PFCs) and include substances referred to as PFOA, C-8, GenX, C-6 and PFOS. These dangerous chemicals are readily absorbed into the human body and are associated with a number of serious health effects, including but not limited to testicular and kidney cancers, ulcerative colitis, thyroid disorders and other conditions. Apparently, Chemours DuPont have sought to discontinue the use of C-8 and PFOA in order to switch to C-6 and GenX, which are presently unregulated by governmental authorities.
For daily updates on this urgent problem, check CFPUA’s website.
